International Venice Film Festival
It takes place annually in Venice (usually between the end of August and the beginning of September) in the historic Palazzo del Cinema, and at the Lido island. It is the oldest film festival in the world, preceded only by the Academy Award, commonly known as the Oscar Ceremony. This event started in 1929 getting the record for the longest-awarded cinematographic competition and is visited by the international cinema jet set.
Palio of Siena
Named simply “The Palio” is the most memorable medieval-style horse race competition among the various Senese “contrade” in Italy. It normally takes place twice a year: July 2nd and August 16th. Dealers figurants and knights representing the Municipalities and the historical city institutions, are the main actors of this historical parade, the jockeys come out on horseback from the entrance of the Town Hall, receive the nerve (dried beef tendon to urge the horse) and go to the start, called “move”.
